HANK WILLIAMS JR.
“127 Rose Avenue” (Curb)
The current economic crisis was made for Hank Williams Jr., a man of certainty in uncertain times. Coincidentally the search for the most heavy-handed recession song ever ended on April 21. That was the release date of “Red, White & Pink-Slip Blues,” his recent single.
With actorly grief Mr. Williams inhabits the persona of a foreman who’s lost his job. Like most good country songs it lingers over details: he loved his town, but “18 months and 2 days ago/the mill closed down/and moved to Mexico.” | Jun 15, 2009 |
